As we dive into the school year, time IS precious. Do you know the best part about pancakes (besides the delicious taste…)? They’re so easy to meal prep and make. Whether you choose to make a week’s worth of pancakes on a Sunday, a day’s worth the night before, or even prep the batter so that it’s ready for the pan in the morning – you’ve got a wholesome, nutritious meal option ready for the whole family. We chose whole wheat flour because incorporating whole grains into your diet will help you feel full and satisfied longer. By utilizing our Stage 2 Butternut Squash & Apple pouch, you’re adding vitamins such as A and C while avoiding the added sugar. This recipe is freezer friendly but we recommend placing parchment paper in between each pancake for easy thawing.


1 1/3 cup whole wheat flour (we suggest Arrowhead Mills Organic Stone Ground Whole Wheat)

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/8 tsp salt

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup buttermilk (you can use store bought or make from scratch – 1
cup milk with 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar and allow sit for 5 minutes)

1 pouch Yummy Spoonfuls Stage 2 Only Butternut Squash & Apple (defrosted)

1 tsp oil for the griddle or sauté pan


Add flour, baking powder, nutmeg and salt into a large bowl and mix well.

In another bowl whisk your eggs then add the Yummy Spoonfuls Stage 2 Butternut Squash and Apples pouch, buttermilk and vanilla.

Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredient bowl and mix until well combined.

Oil or spray your pan and heat on medium.

Ladle ¼-cupfuls of batter into hot skillet (if you are making for the kiddo(s) and have some extra time use a tablespoon instead to make perfect hand sizes for them).

Flip your pancake when you see bubbles and the underside is lightly brown. Depending on your pancake size it could take about 30 seconds. It is done when it bounces back to your touch, about 20 seconds or less. Transfer pancake to plate, oil/spray skillet and repeat until remaining batter is finished.

Top with your favorite fruits/ hemp seeds and some warm maple syrup.
